Peabody Real Estate

Situated in Essex County, Peabody is a north shore city that is known for having a great industrial history. Originally when settled the area was a part of Salem and then later a part of Danvers and was named “The Farms” as well as “The South Parrish.” It wasn’t until 1916 that it was officially incorporated as a city and named Peabody.

Peabody was first started as a farming community and then later popular for tanneries. In fact the mascot of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School is named the Tanners as a result. During the second half of the 20th century more and more tanneries had closed which caused a hiccup in the local economy. However, the automobile industry had assisted in a resurgence for economic development as well as the Northshore Mall which was originally known as the largest mall in the region.
